The Quirky Community Hub C.I.C. is a Community Interest Company based in Hoylake, Wirral. We exist to support people experiencing disadvantage, isolation, neurodivergence, poverty, trauma, or barriers to inclusion – and to build a community where difference is not just accepted, but celebrated.

We provide a welcoming, low-barrier space where children, young people, adults and families can come together, access support, build skills, and shape the decisions that affect their lives.

What We Do

At the heart of our work is the Quirky Community Programme, delivered six days a week from our Hub on Market Street.

Our programme combines:

  • Inclusive activities and events for children, young people and adults
  • A welcoming community café offering affordable, nutritious food Creative, sensory and wellbeing spaces, including a sensory room and quiet mindfulness areas
  • Skills-building sessions that support confidence, independence and decision-making
  • Opportunities for connection, volunteering, and peer support

Everything we do is designed to be access-first, flexible, and non-judgemental.

Who We Support

We work with people who are often underserved or overlooked, including:

  • Neurodivergent children and adults
  • Children with SEND, EBSA, or not in mainstream education
  • People experiencing poverty or food insecurity
  • Older adults at risk of loneliness or isolation
  • Sanctuary-seeking and multilingual families
  • People experiencing stress, anxiety, or mental health challenges

In a typical year, more than 2,500 people engage with The Quirky through activities, events, volunteering, or use of our space.

Our Approach

Lived Experience at the Centre

Our organisation is built on lived experience. Most of our staff and volunteers are neurodivergent, parents of neurodivergent children, or have direct experience of the challenges our community faces. This shapes everything — from how our space feels, to how we design activities, to how we listen.

Co-Designed With the Community

We actively involve our community in shaping what we offer. Through open planning boards, feedback loops, co-designed sessions and informal conversations, people help guide our programme in real time.

More Than Crisis Support

We don’t just respond to need – we help people build confidence, skills and agency. Whether that’s through cooking classes, wellbeing workshops, creative expression, or quiet support ahead of a school meeting or appointment, our focus is long-term resilience and empowerment.

Why The Quirky Matters

Hoylake is often perceived as affluent, yet many residents experience hidden deprivation, isolation, or barriers to support. We exist to make sure no one falls through the gaps.

At The Quirky:

  • There is no judgement
  • There is no pressure to “fit in”
  • There is space to be yourself

Being “quirky” here is something to be proud of.
